MANUSCRIPT CRITIQUE
This is also known as a manuscript assessment. This service provides a comprehensive analysis of your work. The idea is to help you enhance the quality of your manuscript during the early stages of your story’s development. We’ll provide feedback on the strengths and weaknesses we find, looking at areas such as pacing and character development. You’ll get a fresh perspective on your story: what works, what doesn’t, and what to consider before you move to the next stage of editing.
DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
Developmental editing is a richer, more in-depth look at your work. The big picture is taken into account and then broken down, focusing on the overall structure and foundation of the writing. Plot holes, inconsistencies, world-building, character development and arcs, themes, story pacing, tone, and voice consistency are examined. We give feedback on what strengths are in the writing and suggest areas that may need improvement.
LINE EDITING
This editing is recommended next as this looks more closely at paragraphs and sentence structures. It focuses on language and writing style often with the intentions of tightening prose, rephrasing for clarification, improving dialogue, and enhancing the author’s intended tone.
COPYEDITING
This editing is technical and is usually what first comes to many people’s minds when the word “editing” is used. Copyediting seeks out grammar errors, punctuation, spelling, and style consistency, up to and including ensuring proper citations for academic texts.
PROOFREADING
This is the last type of editing that looks into the manuscript as a whole, correcting any typos, formatting issues, double-checking references and citations if needed, and ensuring the work is polished and ready.
